A Moveable Feast: June Round-Up

In June, we read and reviewed A Moveable Feast: Life Changing Food Adventures Around the World published by Lonely Planet. It’s a collection of essays about food and travel. Thanks to our members who wrote reviews for us. Please visit them to see what everyone thought of the book:

Thanks to a suggestion by Pech, I have started an index of places mentioned in A Moveable Feast. Now you can pick an essay to read based on where it is set. Maybe see if your next holiday destination is listed?

In July, it’s time for our annual novel! This year it’s The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender (chosen by Vicki of I’d Rather Be at the Beach). Enjoy it this month and then write a review for us! Please post your review in the last week (or on the last day) of the month, and come back here on the first of next month for a round-up of all the reviews.

Our friendly, online group is always welcoming new members. Find out more about us here.

A History of the World in Six Glasses: May Round-Up

In May, we read the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage, chosen by Amanda of Omar Niode Foundation. Thanks to members who participated by reading the book and writing a review. Here is a list of our reviews. Please visit each of them to see what everyone thought of the book.

Our June book is A Moveable Feast: Life Changing Food Adventures Around the World published by Lonely Planet, which is a collection of 38 stories about travel and food from around the world. The writers are diverse and include a few we have seen before at the Kitchen Reader: David Lebovitz (our very first book in August 2009), Anthony Bourdain (see our March 2011 round-up), and Mark Kurlansky (see our May 2011 round-up). Please join us by dipping into the book, reading a few essays, and then telling us what struck you. Please post your review in the last week (or on the last day) of the month, and come back here on the first of next month for a round-up of all the reviews.

New members are most welcome! Find out more about us here.

April’s New Members

We are joined by Stephanie from Toronto and the blog Kitchen Frolic. She started blogging when she and her husband, Paul, began seriously learning to cook. Her pesto cheeseburgers sound like a good recipe to try!

I must apologize to Amanda, who joined us a few months ago; I failed to introduce her in a post! Oops. She has already contributed some insightful reviews and has chosen our May book for us: A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage. Amanda blogs at the Omar Niode Foundation and she lives in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Foundation focuses on social and educational initiatives, particularly relating to food and agriculture. The blog is full of good food ideas.

Please visit the blogs of our new members and welcome them to the group!
